Hillary was not the right woman for the job

Just because she is the first woman to be in the position of a presidential vote, I won't vote against my conscience. There is something about her that makes me incredibly uneasy, much like George Bush II: narcissism, a sense of superiority, a lack of team play, out for herself at the expense of those around her and even the end goal.

Her most interesting and admirable accomplishments were before she entered politics and as a young woman. I went to her website to convince myself that maybe she would be a great president and I found vague phrases. The best reading of her resume was by her husband in Us Magazine, of all places. It too focused on idealistic young woman Hillary. The real resume stopped there. Today it feels that she believes the world owes her one. She stepped from the shadows of being a successful politicians wife, to a jr senator with no visible leadership demonstrated in either role. People who believe the world owes them should not be handed the keys to the world.

In a fascinating Op-Ed piece Maureen Dowd finally enlightened me as to the rage many seem to feel that Hillary didn't win. The embarrassing undermining and pouting drawing great attention reminds me of behavior, well...that women are frequently derided for by men when they don't get their way. Although it's interesting to see these female dynamics played on a national political arena. Without sarcasm, the public temper tantrum is progress. Maureen talks about Hillary as if she were all women, as if she were herself: always expected to do the work while someone else reaps the winnings. Shut up and put up because no one ever really considered you a contender -- do Hillary's die hards really think that was her problem in this race?

Ladies and gentlemen, someday we will have a woman candidate much like we were graced with an African American candidate. It won't be because of or in spite of her femininity but because she simply won us over. Obama today is a candidate of the heart, much like Bill was. Politics is about rock stars, it's charisma and a cores of values that can be articulated that draw people to them. Ironically, while the woman has enormous intelligence and discipline 'of the heart' has never been Hillary's public strength.

12th House Personal List: Best Movies

1. Bram Stoker's Dracula
I saw this in a theater full of drunken college students that laughed at most of the places my heart was soaring and beating. My then-husband and I turned to each other during the first raucous outbreak and he raised his eyebrow and I frowned: "Why are they laughing?" I asked him. "They've never really been in love" he said.

2. The Wizard of Oz
How many images and quotes come to your head?

3. Dangerous Liaisons
What is a woman's power in the 18th century world? What was the result of ambition thwarted and twisted for lack of outlets? In the late 20th? Not too different it turned out. The sly dark humor, the customs, the red hot passion (reportedly real and devastating) between Michelle Pfeiffer and John Malcovitz, Uma's sly turn from convent child to knowing lover, and finally Glenn Close's harrowing portrait of an ultra-intelligent woman who found her niche in cruel manipulation that still seems to be the refuge of most women today.

4. Young Frankenstein
Gene Wilder was my first movie star crush. His blond curls, blue eyes, deft combination of humor, pathos and suave come hither sexuality did me in. And this take off on 1930s horror films has the kind of out loud laughs you hope for in a comedy. Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Mel Brooks, Terri Garr...we can only hope they had as much fun making this as the rest of us have watching it 30 years later and running.

5. Police Story: Naked Gun. Most Blake Edward's Pink Panther movies.
Bad day? Someone in one of these movies had a worse one. And they're reaction was a lot funnier. Watch their version to magically erase the one you had today.

6. Whale Watcher
A young woman who has to fight just about everyone close to her and her own family history of inertia to become who she needed to be in the world, only to be validated by nature first and finally her society.
